Traffic Safety Programs

Responsibilities

Deputies are responsible for enforcing traffic laws, investigating motor vehicle crashes, assisting motorists and educating the public about reducing traffic crashes and injuries. Deputies investigate major crashes, patrol school zones, conduct speed enforcement, and work DUI emphasis patrols.
Officer Pulling Over a Civilian
Voluntary compliance with traffic laws is encouraged through the use of public education. Unfortunately, experience shows us that traffic law enforcement must also be part of an effective traffic safety program. Every patrol car is equipped with a moving and stationary radar to effectively enforce speeding violations.

Grants

Jefferson County receives a state funded grant through the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to work in partnership with Port Townsend Police and the Washington State Patrol to provide additional traffic emphasis patrols.
