2022 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update

The update process for the Jefferson County/City of Port Townsend Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan is current underway! The Mitigation Plan is an important document that outlines the significant hazards we face on the Olympic Peninsula as well as mitigation strategies and planning actions we can take to reduce harm and vulnerability.

The plan is updated on a five-year cycle. The previous plan, updated in 2016 and renewed in 2017 can be found here: bit.ly/jeffcohazmit.

What's next: we are in the process of establishing our Hazard Vulnerability Analysis, and we need your help! A Hazard Vulnerability Analysis, or HVA, lists potential hazards and establishes a risk ranking so that we can compare our relative risk and establish priorities. This is not possible without input from a broad array of stakeholders.

A HVA survey is currently is open for community feedback, and can be found here: JeffCo HazMit HVA Survey

The survey should take about fifteen minutes, is open to everyone, and will remain open until January 3rd, 2022.

Want to learn more about our hazards and how the HVA is conducted? A presentation from the Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee is available at the following link: https://youtu.be/rpKq0LICYfU

There are additional slide decks available below, including an overview of the overall mitigation planning process, as well as the slide deck from the HVA presentation above.

Finally, do you want to get involved? We need volunteers to conduct research, review and edit, and do outreach to participating agencies. Contact JCDEM@co.jefferson.wa.us if you'd like to help out.
