Roads & Traffic

Public Works collects information on vehicle counts, travel speeds, and crashes in order to develop transportation projects that improve the safety and efficiency of our transportation system.  Visit the Roads & Traffic page for information on traffic counts, speed studies and the setting of speed limits on county roads.

Also available on the Roads & Traffic page is information and forms related to requests for road vacations, road naming, and the establishment of county roads and road improvement districts.

Transportation Planning

Permits

Permits are required for any activity by a citizen or business that impacts a county road or right-of-way, in order to protect the infrastructure and the public's safety and investment.  Public Works reviews and processes requests for road approaches, utilities and other right-of-way uses, as well as requests for road vacations, new road names and new addresses.  Visit the Permits page for access to application forms.

Development Review

Public Works reviews development applications in conjunction with the Department of Community Development to ensure that proposals comply with the Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan, the Unified Development Code, and state and county standards for transportation, stormwater management, and usage of county rights-of-way.
