TIP Background

Washington State law requires the annual adoption of a six-year transportation improvement program (6-yr TIP) after a public hearing.  The purpose of the law is to "assure that each county shall perpetually have available advanced plans looking to the future for not less than six years as a guide in carrying out a coordinated transportation program" (RCW 36.81.121(1)).

The TIP is a list of capital transportation projects that the County anticipates undertaking in corresponding six-year period, including secured and anticipated funding sources for each project.  The adopted 6-yr TIP is used for developing the annual construction program budget each year.  The project list is provided to the the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for the purpose of developing the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

Projects are selected by a variety of methods, including evaluation of needs and potential solutions through priority arrays for road segments, safety concerns, active transportation, bridge conditions, gravel roads, culverts and fish passage.

2012-2017 TIP

On June 20, 2011, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) unanimously adopted the 2012-2017 6-yr TIP through Resolution 24-11.
