The Comprehensive
Flood Hazard Management Plan for the Dosewallips and Duckabush
Rivers has been completed. Jefferson County Board of County
Commissioners held a public hearing on August 10, 2009, and then
adopted the flood plan by resolution. On December 5, 2009, Washington
Department of Ecology approved the flood plan.

The Jefferson
County Department of Community Development will convene the fifth advisory committee meeting for the Duckabush and Dosewallips
Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management Plan on Monday, June
22, 2009 at the Brinnon Community Center (306144 Highway 101 in Brinnon).
The advisory committee
meeting will run from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and will be followed by a formal public meeting at the same location.
The public meeting will run from 7:00 to 8:30 pm that evening.
The purpose of both meetings
will be to provide comments on the Final Draft Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management
Plan.

Community Center (306144 U.S. Highway 101 in Brinnon).
The advisory committee
meeting will run from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and will be followed by a public meeting at the same location.
The public meeting will run from 7:00 to 8:30 pm that evening.
The purpose of both meetings
will be to further discuss and develop a Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management
Plan. This plan will be based on the Existing Conditions
report for the Duckabush and Dosewallips Rivers and input from the
advisory team and the public.

The advisory committee
meeting will run from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and will be followed by a formal public meeting at the same location.
The public meeting will run from 7:00 to 8:30 pm that evening.
The purpose of both meetings
will be to begin developing a Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management
Plan. This plan will be based on the Existing Conditions
report for the Duckabush and Dosewallips Rivers and input from the
public.

Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management Plan on Thursday, November
13, 2008 at the Brinnon Fire Hall.
The advisory committee
meeting was followed that evening by a formal public meeting at the same location.
The purpose of both meetings
was to introduce, review and receive initial feedback on a draft existing
conditions report for the Duckabush and Dosewallips Rivers. The
existing conditions report will be a component of the broader
Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management Plan.

The Jefferson
County Department of Community Development convened the first
advisory committee meeting for the Duckabush and Dosewallips
Comprehensive Flood Hazard Management Plan on Thursday, July 31,
2008 at the Brinnon Fire Hall.
The meeting introduced advisory committee members to the flood
planning process, discussed goals and objectives for the flood plan,
and identified existing conditions on the rivers relevant to flood
planning.

PUBLIC MEETING

The purpose of the
public meeting was to introduce and receive early community input on
the development of the Flood
Hazard Management Plan.

Below are three fact sheets
explaining comprehensive flood hazard management planning, it's
purpose, and the basic objectives of the Duckabush and Dosewallips
planning effort.
In 1998, the County prepared a
flood hazard management plan for the lower Big Quilcene River. The
plan resulted in the acquisition of over 35 acres from willing
sellers for flood management purposes, dike removal below Linger
Longer Road, and the installation of some gravel traps. To view
