The next CAC regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:30 p.m., at Port Townsend City Hall, Third Floor Conference Room, 250 Madison St. , Port Townsend, WA.

The Climate Action Committee is responsible for developing strategies to implement the goals specified in Jefferson County Resolution 44-07/City of Port Townsend Resolution 07-22 via a Climate Action Plan, which will detail how to achieve the goal of an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by the year 2050. It is anticipated that the CAC will present to the Board of County Commissioners and the Port Townsend City Council the draft Climate Action Plan in late 2009.

Current Activities
The following were approved in a joint session of the Port Townsend City Council and the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners on January 12, 2009:

The CAC compiled a public discussion document of Potential Measures to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions.  The document was presented at a joint session of the Board of County Commissioners and the Port Townsend City Council on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

The CAC held open houses in Port Townsend, Brinnon and Chimacum to inform the public about the committee’s purpose and activities and to solicit input on the Potential Measures to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

ICLEI Membership

The City of Port Townsend is a member of the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) - Local Governments for Sustainability.  This organization provides both software and technical support for conducting a baseline carbon emissions inventory.  Learn more about ICLEI
