Climate Action Plan
The Board of County Commissioners and the City Council adopted the Climate Action Plan 2 MB on Monday, November 14, 2011.

Meetings
A date for the next CAC meeting has not been set.  This page will be updated when a meeting has been scheduled.

As they become available, the meeting agendas and meeting minutes are posted below in the Documents section.

The Climate Action Committee is responsible for developing strategies to implement the goals specified in Jefferson County Resolution 44-07/City of Port Townsend Resolution 07-22 via a Climate Action Plan, which will detail how to achieve the goal of an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by the year 2050. It is anticipated that the CAC will present to the Board of County Commissioners and the Port Townsend City Council the draft Climate Action Plan in late 2009.

Previous Activities
On June 15, 2011, the Climate Action Committee approved the Final Draft Climate Action Plan to send to the Board of County Commissioners and City Council for adoption.  A joint City Council/Board of County Commissioners special meeting was held on July 21, 2011 at 6:30 in the Board of County Commissioners Chambers to discuss the draft Climate Action Plan. 

The following were approved in a joint session of the Port Townsend City Council and the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners on January 12, 2009:

The CAC compiled a public discussion document of Potential Measures to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions.  The document was presented at a joint session of the Board of County Commissioners and the Port Townsend City Council on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

The CAC held open houses in Port Townsend, Brinnon and Chimacum to inform the public about the committee’s purpose and activities and to solicit input on the Potential Measures to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

ICLEI Membership

The City of Port Townsend is a member of the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) - Local Governments for Sustainability.  This organization provided both software and technical support for conducting a baseline carbon emissions inventory.  Learn more about ICLEI
